- Check the condition of the brake pads;
- Make sure all signal lights, brake lights, head lights and interior lights are operational;
- Go over the upholstery and seating looking for rips, holes, stains and more;
- Start the engine and leave it running while you continue the interior inspection;
- Turn on the AC to make sure it works well;
- Try out all the electronic controls;
- Determine if you really believe the vehicle is comfortable;
- Look at the odometer to check the mileage;
Inspecting a second hand vehicle before buying it is important! After you’re through carefully inspecting a vehicle you’re considering, then you need to actually take it for a test spin. Get it out on the roads and drive it like you would if you owned it. Listen for any strange sounds coming from the engine area, brakes and other key locations. If you happen to have a friend that’s a good mechanic, it never hurts to take him along for the test drive with you. And of course, many licensed mechanics offer pre-purchase inspections for about $150.
